The entire look: hair, makeup and nails, were all exceptional backstage at the Naeem Kahn spring 2013 fashion show. But the standout, in my opinion, were the glossy Bordeaux lips. They were created with various lip liners and lipsticks — five to be exact. If that sounds like overkill for an off-the-runway look, it kinda is. But if you want a striking pout like this, it’s worth it. “The more lipsticks you use, the more control you have over the color,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry.
The other thing is, the custom blended shade he created also looks great on every skin tone. To create the lip color, Boehmer started by lining the lips with a dark brown pencil to create depth. You can use any brown eyeliner you have lying around for this.
He then applied powder over the liner to prevent it from mixing with the other shades and turning them muddy. Next, you’ll add your reds on top. Boehmer swears that any red shade will do, but when I played around, I found that true reds look the best. He used Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned, $24, Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Never Say Never, $24, Nars Lipstick in Jungle Red, $24 and topped with Nars Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Place Vendome $26, to give it a bright glossiness.
Is this a trick you would try?
