As the weather starts to chill in New York, I go bananas for lip balm. I always find if I start off on the right foot protecting my pout, I won’t have to deal with those peely, cracked lips we all complain about come January. I’ve typically been true to a few old standbys: Smith’s Rosebud Salve, $7, Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1, $9, and, of course Cherry Chapstick, $2, yum. But this season, I have a new favorite that just might trump the rest this year: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, SPF 15, $23. Yes, it’s ultra-pricey for a lip balm, but it lasts for ages and ages — and it truly works. This special balm is packed with reparative oils, waxes essential fatty acids, and real sugar, a natural humectant. When you apply it, it practically melts into your lips, keeping them moisturized for hours. And the sweet, lemon-y flavor is nice, but not overpowering. If you prefer a tinted balm, this also comes in a new shade, Sugar Berry Tinted, a pretty, sheer raspberry mauve — the perfect shade to freshen your face when you aren’t wearing any makeup.
