While perusing photos from the fabulous 2012 MET Gala, I came across this shot of Glee star Lea Michele. I totally dig her eye makeup look here, and wondered: What does it really take to create a similar look? One that would photograph equally as well. I recently had some photos taken and I am always amazed at how natural I end up looking in shots, even after applying more makeup than usual. So, I was curious to know what Michele’s makeup artist did with her eye makeup for this occasion to create this stunning, notice-me look. Here’s what celebrity makeup artist Melanie Inglessis did:
First, she lined Michele’s eyes with a plum eyeliner. She used Avon Eye Brightening Pencil in Plumberry, $7. Next she swiped Michele’s lids with two shades of creamy copper eyeshadow — one neutral, one brighter. She used Avon Eye Brightening Pencil in Honey Blue, $7 from lashlines to creases and Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Enrapture, $26 on the inner corners of the eyes. Then, using a crease brush, she blended the edges of the plum liner with the copper shadow to create a smoky effect.
To add more drama to the eyes, she swiped a dark chocolate colored shadow over the plum liner (she used Chanel Ombre Essentielle in Mahogany, $28.50), and finished the eyes with two coats of black mascara (she used Avon ExtraLasting Mascara in Extreme Black, $9.50). Though she didn’t mention adding false lashes or the fact that Michele has lash extensions, I’m assuming that one of the two things helped complete the lash-heavy look. (more…)
